Fatigue: Common Lab Tests Clinicians May Consider
Persistent fatigue has many possible causes. Learn which lab tests are commonly used to help evaluate it.
Fatigue is one of the most common reasons people see a clinician. It is a symptom, not a diagnosis, and may have many possible causes — from sleep and stress to thyroid, anemia, or chronic conditions.
Lab tests clinicians may consider
Depending on the clinical picture, lab tests that may help evaluate fatigue include:
- Complete blood count — to look for anemia or signs of infection
- Vitamin panel — particularly vitamin D and B12
- Thyroid function tests
- Kidney function panel
- Liver function tests
- Iron studies
